Today show hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, are speaking out on the rape allegations against Matt Lauer.

A new book by Ronan Farrow details rape allegations against Lauer by former NBC employee Brooke Nevils. Her story is what led to the Today anchor being fired back in 2017. At the time, it was shared Lauer was accused of “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.”

Now Nevills is claiming he raped her. She recalls the encounter in Farrow’s book, which is the first time her identify was revealed to the public.

On Wednesday morning, a somber Guthrie spoke on air about the allegations.

“I feel like we owe it to our viewers to pause for a moment. This is shocking and appalling. I honestly don’t even know what to say about it. I want to say, I know it wasn’t easy for our colleague Brooke to come forward then. It’s not easy now, and we support her and any women who have come forward with claims. And it’s just very painful for all of us at NBC and who are at the Today show. It’s very, very, very difficult,” Guthrie expressed.

Kotb echoed what her coworker stated. Both ladies admitted they are still processing the day’s events.

“We don’t know all the facts on all of this, but there are not allegations of an affair, there are allegations of a crime. I think that’s shocking to all of us here who have sat with Matt for many, many years. So I think we’re going to just sort of continue to process this part of this horrific story, and as you said, our thoughts are with Brooke. It’s not easy what she did to come forward. It’s not easy at all,” Kotb said.

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb are both shaken to their core over the rape allegations against Matt Lauer by Brooke Nevils. Ronan Farrow’s new book, Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators goes in detail of Nevils’ accusation against Lauer.

Variety obtained an excerpt from the book, where Nevils claims the Today anchor anally raped her when they were working at the 2014 Special Olympics. Farrow recalls Nevils saying it was extremely painful, causing her to bleed for days. She was at the time too drunk to fight back against the powerful man.

Lauer has called the allegations against him nothing but “false stories” made up to sell books.
