EXCLUSIVE: Andy Brown Talks Solo Career and Debut Album

Publish date: 2024-04-10

Since going solo former Lawson frontman Andy Brown has become one of the most exciting homegrown country music scene and this June he will release his debut album ‘Cedarmont‘ which is set to become one of the biggest crossover albums of the year.

Here we speak exclusively to Andy Brown to discuss his solo career, debut album, touring plans and much, much more;

Your new single ‘Put That Record On’ is out now, how are you finding the fans’ response?

Response has been really great, everyone seems to be really liking the track. It was a fan favourite when I performed it on tour so thought I’d have to release it.

It has a different vibe to your previous singles ‘Landslide’, and ‘Talk Of The Town’, can we expect a mix of sounds on Cedarmont?

There is a general theme on the album, Put That Record On is probably the most unique sounding in terms of production. I wanted to stretch the boundaries a little with this song.

Which song off the LP are you most excited for listeners to hear?

All of them! My personal favourite is a track called Lay With Me.

What do you hope the listeners take away from the songs on the record?

Hopefully it makes you feel something. Hopefully you can relate to the songs. Relate to the lyrics. Most of the tracks are feel good uplifting tracks, perfect for summer!

How are you finding the transition from pop/rock “boyband” front man to solo country star?

It’s great, I still talk to the Lawson guys everyday. We’re best friends. But this has been a nice change. Something different to sink my teeth into.

How do you feel your music fits into the UK country market?

I try not to think about it too much. I just make music I enjoy listening to, and also enjoy writing. The word country music is quite a strange word in the UK, people don’t understand the genre massively. But for me it’s honest, heartfelt songs with guitars!!!

Your debut single ‘Landslide’ featured The Shires’ Crissie Rhodes, are there any other artists you’re looking to work with soon?

Not at the moment. There are a lot of american artists I’m loving at the moment, Maren Morris is my fav.

You recently finished your own solo tour, and will be supporting The Shires, and Shane Filan this year what can fans expect from your live set?

I’m playing the tours acoustic, so it’ll be a nice chance to hear the songs stripped down. I’ll be playing some tracks off my new album and probably throw a cover in too.

Along with being a support act this year, can we also expect another solo tour from you soon?

100%! That’s my aim, I’d love to do a tour towards the end of the year. Get these two tours under my belt, release the album then hit the road for some headline shows!

How did you find the experience of touring as a solo artist?

It’s cool, not too different from Lawson, probably a little less partying. It’ll be nice to reconnect with the fans and also make some new ones!

Are you enjoying having the sole creative choice for your own music?

Of course, I’ve always been quite involved in the creative process from the beginning. The difference with being solo is that there are a few less opinions and less people to make happy. So the decision process is usually quite quicker.

What are your main career goals for 2018?

I’d love to have a top ten album that’s my dream, and then be able to tour it across the UK. Following that I’d love to get out and see the rest of the world. I’ve got a great following in Se Asia so it’d be great to get out there.
