Charlotte Gordon Cumming is popular as the wife of Nicholas Evans who was a celebrated storyteller and writer known for his award-winning novel, The Horse Whisperer. The pair were married for over 3 decades and blessed with four children before his unfortunate demise on August 9, 2022, following a heart attack.

On her own, she is a singer, songwriter, and music producer. Charlotte has written songs for a number of artists and bands including the Sugababes band.  Nicholas Evans’ Wife, Charlotte is from a Scottish Background

Charlotte Gordon Cumming was born to her parents on Febuary 2, 1958 in Forres. It was also there that she was raised and had her preparatory education. While much about her early life, parents, and other family members is not known, we garnered that she is from a Scottish background and toured around Africa with her parents when she was a child. Also, her father was a chief of the Cumming clan.

Information regarding her educational pursuit has not been recorded which makes it difficult to conclude if she had proper training before delving into the entertainment industry. What is known however is that she ran away from a boarding school in Italy at the age of 18 and relocated to London.

A Look at Charlotte’s Career

As stated, Charlotte fled from school at the age of 18 to start a life in London. Although her reasons were not revealed, we presume that her passion must have prompted her actions. She started writing a lot of poems in her early 20s until she was advised by a record producer friend to start writing songs. Yielding to this, the Forres-born wrote songs for a number of artists and spent most of her time at studios.

She also got engaged in a number of part-time jobs to foot her bills including selling oriental carpets. After a couple of years, Charlotte became a well-known songwriter and even wrote a song titled Soul Sounds for the  Sugababes band. The hit song was nominated for MTV Best European Single Award in 2001 and has been covered by a lot of singers including Joy Tobing, an Indonesian Singer.

Charlotte Gordon Cumming Was Married to Nicholas Evans For Over 3 decades 

Charlotte and her late husband Nicholas Evans were very private people who made it a priority to maintain their lives away from the camera. As a result of this, details regarding how they met and when they got married have remained elusive to the media. However, it’s not out of place to presume that their marriage must have lasted for over three decades since their first child is over the age of 35.

Charlotte’s marriage was blessed with four children. Their first child Finlay was born a few years after their marriage and then Lauren, Max, and Harry followed.

The singer’s late husband Nicholas Evans was born in the 50s in Worcestershire, England. He pursued a career in journalism after law school and worked at a local newspaper (Evening Chronicle) based in Newcastle, England. Moving on, he dabbled into TV broadcasts about US politics, and later, he started producing art documentaries on several topics and people of interest thusly, he developed a passion for literature.

She Suffered a Kidney Failure in 2008

One sad experience Nicholas Evans’ wife has stated to never forget is the story of her kidney failure. According to her, she became sick sometime in August 2008 after eating a mushroom which was later discovered to be a poisonous species of webcaps. Charlotte added that everyone who had taken part in the mushroom meal also suffered the same fate including her husband, her brother, and sister-in-law.

As the story goes, a week after the deadly meal, she was placed on dialysis as the poison had damaged her kidney. After a few months at Aberdeen’s Royal Infirmary, a kidney transplant surgery was required for her to stay alive since all the dialysis only worsened her condition. However, since there was no donor, she remained on normal dialysis for almost three years.

Fortunately, her son’s best friend’s mother Serena donated one of her kidneys to Charlotte who was already losing hope. The kidney transplant was carried out at the Hammersmith Hospital on July 24, 2012, and was reportedly successful. The singer revealed to her Facebook fans that her new kidney was working well and in great shape.

Charlotte Gordon Cumming Switched from the Entertainment Industry to Fashion

After spending over three decades in the entertainment industry as a poet, songwriter, and singer, the mother of three decided to switch to fashion. Prior to this, she made it known that she had lost confidence in singing and was also battling a hearing problem. Even though she went to record  The Brave Album, that was reportedly her last album.

Charlotte founded the brand known as the House of Comyn, named after her ancient Scottish clan. According to her, she was inspired by the prints that were used in the 20th century and wanted to make classical and ageless fashion from them.

She Lost Her Husband to a Heart Attack in August 2022

Charlotte’s husband Nicholas Evan suffered the same fate as her after the consumption of the poisonous mushroom. Following this, the father of four managed to remain strong under dialysis until his daughter Lauren who was in her late 20s donated one of her kidneys to keep him alive in 2011.

Though the surgery was considered successful, his life never remained the same. He was plagued with other diseases until his death on August 9, 2022, as a result of a heart attack. He was 72 years old at that time.

Charlotte has been faced with a lot of challenges one too many many however, we have seen her pull through and become even stronger. While a lot of sympathizers and fans have sent their condolences to Charlotte at this time. The 66 years old still continues to mourn her better half and has remained silent since his departure. Nonetheless, as known that time heals all wounds, fans continue to hope and pray that she is comforted.
