Bed Bath & Beyond CFO IDd as Tribeca Jenga Building jumper

Publish date: 2024-05-28

Let's see...no mention of a wife, girlfriend, or kids. Lived in a super swanky apartment in Tribeca. Bachelor? No wife, no kids, no family. That could only mean one thing......

Looks like the culprit is surprise Amal.

Amal Clooney? Now that’s a surprise!

Not sure if he was a bachelor. There was a woman outside crying but she looks almost identical to him so I'm thinking it's his sister.

by Anonymousreply 8September 4, 2022 8:50 AM

Not a mid life crisis. He sold stock before the big public announcement which caused the stock price drop. He was the Chief Financial Officer of a company in a death spiral. His career was in tatters and he was unethical.

Who thinks he sacrificed himself for the sake of his company? Nobody. In fact, it sounds like he was up to some shady stuff that contributed to the company's fall.

Daily Fail and many other media outlets are going with photos that show body bag, this is not uncommon. Body bags, sheets covering dead bodies, it's all fair game for photographers and thus news media. and has been so for ages.

One or two photographers are always early on scene of such events to sniff out dirt. They will then sell their pictures to various high bidders. Notice both on NYP and Daily Fail images are credited and or copyrighted to two different photographers.

by Anonymousreply 17September 4, 2022 9:19 AM

r16 I'm pretty sure Bed, Bath and Beyond was going to fall by itself. There is a little startup called Amazon that's cutting into their profits.

by Anonymousreply 18September 4, 2022 9:19 AM

This is odd. He must have had tons of money to retire early, and he was young!

If I killed myself over fucking BED BATH & BEYOND, I would expect everyone I know to guffaw openly right through my silly funeral.

How embarrassing!

by Anonymousreply 48September 4, 2022 10:36 AM

Bed Bath Beyond was unable to capitalize on third world labor to keep prices down like they did all through the 90’s. When prices went up people stopped buying or as frequent. They also subbed out a lot of quality brands for generic ones that weren’t as good or broke easily. I’m not going to pay $32 for a bath mat no matter how good it is! Rents, labor and utilities went up as well.

Also, quality brands like Dyson sold more directly to consumers with payment plans and Best Buy expanded into vacuums and kitchen goods.

As a business manager, I’m also going to say that a lot of the business models of yesteryear aren’t going to work anymore due to the omnipresence of Amazon, shipping same day, and that people are working from home and changing habits of families, dining and people congregating in general. Malls and freestanding stores won’t draw traffic unless it’s a select “destination” like Best Buy, or there’s a supermarket nearby.

Trying to save BBB with $500 million investment is like mixing three pounds of fresh hamburger to a pound of rotten, grilling it up and hoping for the best.

by Anonymousreply 52September 4, 2022 11:05 AM

[quote]Bed, Bath, and Beyond just declared bankruptcy yesterday and he's the CFO.

No they didn't. Stop making shit up.

by Anonymousreply 53September 4, 2022 12:16 PM

BB&B was very slow out of the gate in adapting to changes in retail. Those huge stores with lots of square footage (like former store on UES in Manhattan, NYC), are expensive.

Meanwhile Amazon.com and Walmart.com became to huge gorillas in room selling nearly if not exact same merchandise, but at lower costs.

At other end of things Target (who also carries much of same merchandise mix as BB&B) has positioned itself well; taking advantage of both online and in store retail.

For BB&B to continue existing it has to give fraus and others reasons to shop. So far only thing one keeps seeing is those huge discount coupons that come in mail or in Sunday papers.

by Anonymousreply 54September 4, 2022 12:27 PM

BBB is also “discretionary” spending- 9 times out of 10 you don’t REALLY need to buy anything and can make do with what you already have, especially with inflation and increased rent. If you live with your parents, you aren’t buying either.

That $400 a month you would’ve spent there is going to your landlord, flood insurance, or increased utility bill.

by Anonymousreply 55September 4, 2022 12:32 PM

A friend of mine was doing some consulting work for Pier1 years ago and was actually in a meeting where the powers that be decided to just continue down the path of buying the cheapest made in China crap that they could and extract as much money out of the company while they could. I'm surprised it took Pier1 as long as it did to close. Maybe that's the same direction BB&B decided to go down. They never invested a dime in improving the store in any way, just the same old junk for decades.

Target is always innovating and they get designers in for limited amounts of time to get people excited about buying new things. They even partnered with Ulta recently. Innovation versus whatever the hell stores like Pier1 and BB&B are doing.

by Anonymousreply 58September 4, 2022 3:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 61September 4, 2022 3:46 PM

"Mr. Arnal sold roughly 55,000 shares in Bed Bath & Beyond on Aug. 16 and 17, as part of a trading plan he had signed in April. In August, Bed Bath & Beyond disclosed in a regulatory filing that Mr. Arnal and the retailer were being sued by certain shareholders. The retailer said it was in the “early stages of evaluating the complaint” but, based on its current understanding, “believes the claims are without merit.”"

One still can post links to Daily Fail. What one writes in thread will be redacted, but link will still work.

If someone has something to say take a page from myself and others by following up DF post with whatever it is one wrote or would have in original thread.

Given how DL operates however one must write something in thread or post will not take. Matters not if one writes the A-B-C's or King Lear's soliloquy, it will be redacted anyway, but again link will still work.

BBBY was being touted as the next meme stock like GameStop. Short selling hedge funds and the Wallstreetbets crowd were manipulating the duck out of the stock price. Coupled with the real structural business problems and his shortish tenure, he was in an untenable position professionally, and seemingly personally too.

Likely an evidence bag containing that and or any possessions found on or near deceased.

When bodies arrive at coroner's office any personal belongings found with will be cataloged, used to identify deceased, then held until next of kin (or anyone legally allowed) claims body.

If foul play is suspected things may go to and be kept by LE for evidence, identification of body, next of kin notification....

You left out the obvious stain upon someone's escutcheon of being a convicted criminal. That would also mean nearly many careers in finance much less executive suites would be off limits as convicted felons aren't eligible. You cannot have someone convicted of securities fraud, tax evasion and whatever else signing off on a company's financials.

Accounts. Certified Public Accountants, CFO, etc... all must (or should) be bonded. That usually is not possible with a criminal conviction.

Oh and if SEC takes action it could mean permanent barring from being involved with securities. Michael Milken is a case in point. Trump pardoned that oily git, but until then he was banned from security dealings.

R88 here...

One that really got me was Ronald Eugene Tanner. The "gay" gentleman who knew he was dying of terminal cancer, and did everything right. Made a will, prepaid for final arrangements, etc.... Only when time comes and LA coroners office shows up a cemetery person running place was "well he can't be buried in plot he paid for because someone else is there, we don't know who...." I wanted to reach through computer screen and punch that guy's lights out. So Ronald Tanner, who only wanted to be laid to rest with his parents is somewhere off to side a few rows away.

Other thing that got me angry is how those black workers from LA ME office were going though Ronald Tanner's things as they prepared to clean place out and found a poster of some play or show he did. Production had a gay theme and they all raised eyebrows.....

Sad thing was Ronald Tanner didn't die destitute; but had quite a bit of money in bank. That balance shrunk after LA took their cut for performing services, but now sits in unclaimed property files. Ronald Tanner was an only child and both parents predeceased him, so unless there are cousins, aunts, uncles or someone out there eventually that money will revert to state.

Living in NYC sadly am all to aware of people found dead in their homes. Yes, many times it is members of gay community. Sometimes there is family, but others not, so things go way of Ronald Tanner's estate.

During height of HIV/AIDS epidemic where people were dropping like flies often friends and or community clubbed together to give deceased a proper going home.

Im having an anxiety attack thinking of it while lying in my bed.

by Anonymousreply 134September 8, 2022 2:45 AM

Nothing nefarious to see here folks; simple case of an executive stressed to max by events quickly spiraling out of hand.

It was a toxic mix by any measure; brought in to right a sinking ship, Arnal arrived in New York as covid about same time covid panic began. BB&B like nearly every other retailer had to confront issues cause by covid including subsequent federal and local government actions.

Worth noting BB&B board considered replacing Arnal, but decided against it due to company's current issues.

As noted Arnal has preplanned to sell shares and this was noted in regulatory filings months ahead of event. Lawsuit against BB&B, Arnal et al was (and is) largely without merit, but it just piled on more stress. Then there was fact Arnal still had a sizeable number of shares remaining that were worth far less than when granted due to BB&B's stock tanking.
